Objective

Aisle Rocket Studios wanted presentation materials with an aesthetic representative of a forward-thinking creative agency. Not having those materials lessened their stature as an authority and hindered their credibility with clients.

The majority of presentation materials being used were initially one-off executions, and then adopted as default templates. They were limited in accommodating all use cases, visually uninspiring, and difficult to use.

Challenge

Continually handling their own branded materials with band-aid fixes prevented them from addressing the problem with a holistic solution.

The challenges ARS faced were finding a solution that didn’t force them to reinvent the wheel, worked for everyone, and could be slowly rolled out. Oh… and doing it between paid client work. ARS opened it up to their Creative team members to explore design solutions.

Approach

Reconvening to review the options, it was evident that the solution was going to have to match the true size of the problem. Fortunately, the comprehensive strategy I’d identified with a reworked logo, brand design toolkit, and presentation materials were up to the task.

The underlying need was a brand-centric design toolkit. Building a library of graphic elements freed the Creative team to actually design while maintaining a harmonious branded aesthetic. The key was tweaking the logo to have favorable forms to exploit. Secondarily, it was essential to find a typeface compatible with the logo and readily available for use across digital executions. For this, I selected Linotype’s Avenir Next.

What we achieved

With the new design toolkit in hand, incremental updates to the presentation materials are easily managed. Instead of being tied to a generic underwhelming template, the designer is able to cater to specific needs and easily address specific use cases. The presentation materials now reflect a vibrant agency, able to implement design solutions.
